The initial funding for the Autism Hope Alliance foundation came at
the bequest of Enzymedica, a manufacturer of enzyme-focused, therapeutic
supplements. Enzymedica's visionary founder, Tom Bohager, recognized the power
of education and hope for families in the face of a diagnosis of autism, and
his mission was later adopted by the Autism Hope Alliance.
While autism is generally considered a neurological disorder, it is
not uncommon for autistic children to face additional health challenges,
including digestive difficulty, intestinal inflammation, and immunological
problems. The Autism Hope Alliance foundation was created to unite
manufacturers, distributors and retailers within the natural products community
to support families with children challenged by autism.
The Foundation's 2009-2010 initiatives include two essential
educational opportunities for families: |
 |
The Autism Grass Roots Tour
. A series of FREE lectures offered
nationwide featuring Kristin Selby Gonzalez, a leading spokesperson for the
autism community, . Ms. Selby Gonzalez is the Director of Autism Education for
Enzymedica and a mother on the front lines of autism. Often, at the time of
diagnosis, parents receive only limited treatment options. The lectures present
innovative solutions to promote progress and inspire a successful plan of
action for children on the spectrum. |
 |
Scholarships for Families to attend the Start-Up program, a 5-day
parent training course at the Autism Treatment Center of America.
Attendees of the Autism Grass Roots Tour lectures will be given the opportunity
to apply for these scholarships, valued at $2,200 each. Scholarship recipients
will be chosen based upon financial need. |
